Hypermetabolic Lymphadenopathy on PET CT in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: New onset and active Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) may be infrequently associated with diffuse lymphadenopathy. This is often worrisome for malignancy in which F18/FDG PET scanning is typically obtained as part of a neoplastic workup. Results are often difficult to interpret and resemble lymphoma in many instances. There is sparse literature describing systematic differences in inflammation versus neoplasm pertaining to SLE in this context. Case Series: We have reviewed F18/FDG PET/CT imaging and histology from three patients with hyper metabolic lymph nodes who were found to have benign pathology in the setting of active SLE. Conclusion: FDG PET scanning is an imaging modality that is infrequently used as a means to non-invasively assess inflammation in rheumatic diseases. Further studies are needed to determine metrics for delineating benign inflammation versus neoplasm based on standard uptake units. However, lymph node biopsy should remain the gold standard for diagnosis in this particular patient population.

Rare Association between Kikuchi's Disease and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis or Kikuchi's disease is a rare, benign condition of unknown etiology, which is usually characterized by cervical lymphadenopathy and fever. This disease is rarely associated with systemic lupus erythematosus. Here we describe, for the first time in Iran, a patient who developed systemic lupus erythematosus about 3 years after the initial diagnosis of Kikuch...

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has various presentations in children. Hematologic abnormalities is common in childhood onset of SLE, however, isolated thrombocytopenia is relatively rare. Thus, we present a child with isolated thrombocytopenia as a rare presentation of SLE. Case presentation: A 12-year-old boy with chief complaints of loss of appetite, weight loss, decrease...
متن کاملAssociation of carcinoid tumor and sarcoidosis.
The association of systemic sarcoidosis with malignant neoplasms has been reported by several publications although there is controversy as to whether sarcoidosis predisposes patients to certain types of tumors or whether it is the tumors that cause a sarcoid reaction. The relationship between endobronchial carcinoid tumor and sarcoidosis is uncommon. We report the case of a 43-year-old male wh...

To the Editor: Tuberculosis (TB) has been extensively described in association with various malignancies, especially Hodgkin’s disease (HD) [1]. When TB is accompanying malignant lymphomas is often characterized by an atypical clinical course, with unusual extrapulmonary localizations [2]. Clinical forms of cutaneous TB have been described: These are: the primary TB inoculation, lupus vulgaris ...
